Getting your website to rank better in Google’s search engine results pages (SERPs) is an ongoing process. It requires you to focus on several factors including quality content, keywords, optimization for mobile devices and even social media. The infographic below lists six ways to help get you on the path to improving your website ranking.
1. Create Quality Content
Search engines love quality content. Frequently posting fresh content can help improve your site’s ranking. Be sure your content is interesting, easy-to-read and useful to your buyer personas. Know your buyer personas. Representation of your ideal customers including their demographics, behavior patterns, motivations and goals.
2. Optimize with Keywords
Determine what phrases your buyer personas may search and include them within the page:
- URL
- Heading
- Meta Description
- Title
- Content
- Image ALT tags
Your keyword density should be 1-2%. Avoid keyword-stuffing! Keywords should be used not more than twice for every 100 words.
3. Boost Traffic with Offers
The more visitors you have, the better your site will rank. Offer free downloadable content to help draw them in. Useful quality content can draw visitors back for more and be shared though social media.
- eBooks
- Presentations
- White Papers
- Infographics
- Webinars
- Videos
Offer solutions. Visitors love content that offers a direct solution to a problem they currently have.
4. Optimize for Mobile Devices
With the use of mobile devices continuing to rapidly increase, it’s important to make sure your site displays correctly. Responsive design continues to be the recommend and most cost-effective method. Avoid problem-causing elements on mobile. Flash, pop-up content and slow loading pages create negative experiences for mobile viewers.
5. Inbound/Outbound Links
Inbound and outbound links both play very important roles. They can increase your authority with search engines, helping boost your site’s rankings. Aim for more inbound links. When related and authoritative sites link to yours, it helps establish credibility with search engines.
6. Utilize Social Media
Optimize social media accounts and use them to drive more visitors and potential customers to your site. Promoting blogs and other content offerings on social media can send traffic back to your site.
